    Default 2007 Morels

I knew that it was a little soon, but I just couldn't resist I had to check on a few of my favorite dead Elms earlier today. We should keep a running total of pounds of mushrooms over the Morel season. Why don't we set a goal to get over 1,000 pounds of Morels on this Forum.

I went out on saturday and found a few small ones. Not even a half a pound but good for one small meal.

Yeah, I was pretty suprised to find one little one poking up in my back yard today. I generally don't get out but a couple times a year, enough for a couple of meals yaknow. I've got two spots in the yard where they've been coming up for the last couple of years. Not enough to worry about but enough to tell me when to start wandering around the woods. Everybody have fun out there.

I'm heading out turkey hunting on Thursday, so hopefully I'll be able to find some.

    Default morels

After last nights rain the morels should really be popping this week. I'm all for keeping a total on the number of pounds we find. Last year I picked up about 30 lbs. I think this year will be a good one.

I don't think we got much rain here in Caledonia. I was trout fishing near Houston and I could hear a lot of thunder to the north. There were a few rain drops where I was, but not much for rain.

I picked up just over a pound tonight. Left some small ones. It looks as though we may get some needed rain this weekend.

Well spike and I went to regester his turkey tonight and he had to stop and see if our morrels popped up yet at this spot we know of and sure enough spike found them. Though only 1 inch tall we will have to wait. Next weekend will be big for us we will be going on our anually TURKEY CAMP south of where we live, my step son has a tag this. Either me our my brother or dad gets a tag later in the year so we can do a little turkey hunting but mainly look for the mighty morrels The campers loaded and ready to go Cannot wait. We maybe even get lucky and catch a nice Brown Trout 21 1/2 inches is our best to date.

    Default 2 lbs

I found 2 lbs last night and surprisingly some of them were dried out already. Early next week they should start popping in more places.

    Default 5lbs

My son, daughter and I picked up 5lbs this morning. We found some nice big yellows on a south facing hillside. Many more were already dried out. I am heading back out this afternoon. That puts my kids and I at 6lbs for the year.

I found 3 lbs this morning and it was pretty tough going to get that many so I went trout fishing in the afternoon.

I went out at lunch today and found a little over pound. We'll call it an even pound. That should bump the total up to 23 lbs.

    23lbs
