Franny is not lying! I was told to call ahead if I get some today. I've been selling there for 21 years and never seen this happen so early... Does anyone have any info on any other places like Wiebke Fur in LaCrosse or Eitzen, or Sacia's near Centerville?

When the market bombs out, save some so when I come down you can fry some up. I have yet to eat any that someone picked. From what I hear...I'm missing out big time.

Thanks, Franny. Let us know how you do if you sell any for the rest of the season. Anyone else that sells--please update as well. I am not going out tonight, but I should get out tomorrow night if the weather is ok.

...and about the Chicken of the Woods...sounds interesting, but never sought after them. If you don't mind, please share the lowdown on them.

I bet a lot of this has to do with the economy......from several different angles. I do not believe that there is more mushrooms this year.........there is probably just more people picking them AND probably not as many being purchased by the big restaurants. That is my two pennies.

i agree with swens. i have been picking for quite a few years and always seel between 50 to 80 pounds. never have seen this happen so early in the season. I dont think this year is a bumper crop or anything it is a good season but not that great. sold for $14 dollars on sunday and two day later to drop that much and not be able to take any in? I have sold them up to the 20th some years from 8 to last year is was 12 dollars! money is tight for everyone and I think that is the reason

    Latest on morel sales:

Hills in LaCrescent is closed again today and if they do buy for the rest of the season, it will only be from people that have slips from earlier this year.

Wiebke Fur is not buying today or tomorrow.

Eckers (not Sacia's) near Centerville has their phone unplugged.

Not looking good for us sellers.

That is crazy. Either the economy has ruined the market this year OR there are TONS of morels that were found south of Wis/MN earlier this year. Wow. There is still a solid 7 days of picking left around here...probably more.
