Default Rapids Archery Club Traditional 3D 2009.

For those of you not aware, this weekend (June 20 & 21, 2009) is the annual Trad 3D shoot at the Coon Rapids Archery Club.
Also for those of you thinking of trying out Traditional Archeryt there will be several vendors there selling Bows, arrows, equipement, etc.. Several custom bow makers will be there and will always let you try thier bows out as well.
Heard there will be a guy throwing arial targets up for those that want to shoot some birdies.

The pic below Is of my brother and a buddy of his shooting aerials at the traditional shoot that one of the Rapids Archery Club members took to put In there yearly photos from the shoots. 2006 I believe this one was. I'll be heading there very early Saturday morning, hope to be there by 8. Been going to this shoot off an on for 10 years, It's a great shoot!! The vendors are down from what they use to be but there's still a good number there.

Sounds as if there will be a a few new vendors this year. Holm-Made Bows will be there again, and another Bowyer out of Iowa.

See ya there, I am also going to try to get there bright and early and find a parking spot in what little shade there is in the parking area.

Will try to get some pics, but my Digital Camera is too big and cumbersome to lug around on a 3D coarse.

Sorry Stump, didn't see your post till this morning. I snapped a few pics off of my dad and another hunting shooting but that was about It. It's a pain trying to take pics and shoot and that same time. Next year were bringing someone with to just take pics.

All In all I shot very well, best score yet at this traditional shoot. I ended up with a score of 875.

Nice shooting Shultzy. I managed a measly 805, but that was still the highest score I've gotten on that coarse. I was shooting with some pretty good shooters all weekend. The Holm twins from Holm Made bows kicked my arse on the range.
Managed to crack the riser (again) on my new 3 peice Longbow, not sure what happend, but the arrow just fell to my feet when I released the string. I think the arrow came off the string just as I was releasing and it dry fired. Luckily I know the Bowyer that built the bow and he is covering it under warranty

Ariel target thrower did not show.I heard he was coming all the way from either Alabama or Arkansas, long way to travel just to throw targets up in the air.
Was a little disappointed in the lack of Novelty shots, and a couple of the range setup were a little on the unsafe side IMHO. but no one got hurt and it was a fun shoot none the less.

That's not bad at all, good shooting!! This was the 1st time I ever cracked the 800 mark. I did manage to ruin one arrow on the metal targets. I made It through one of the other metal targets but chickened out on the rest.

I saw 2 other guys In there with Chad (I think that's his name). I never made It over to talk with him though, we were trying to get through and get home as soon as possible. You were probably one of the guys.

It happens. Good luck with It, good thing Its under warranty.

To be honest I thought the shoot wasn't as good as It usually Is. Way to many sticks and trees In the way on some of them I thought, no way I would of shot at a real animal In some of them scenarios. You also hit the nail on the head with some of the set ups being very unsafe, that really surprised me there. The African round kicked my but good!!! It was the last round we shot and I was starting to run out of steam. I've got elbow Issues (Golfers Elbow) and It was really starting to act up that whole round. The shots on that round were definitely challenging though (for me anyway they were). The vendor numbers sucked I thought!! I usually buy a bunch of my traditional stuff at this shoot every year but no one had the stuff that I usually buy. I was ticked about that. G&M Archery Is who I usually buy my 3 finger under tabs and strings from, didn't see him anywhere. I have a hard time finding 3 finger under tabs anywhere else.

Yeah one of them talking to Chad was probably me, I was the heavier set guy hobbling around on a bad foot.
I shot at every steel target both times therough the course, only missed once. My best score was the second time through the Africa loop, but that one was tough, and HOT!!!
I'm a member on another Minnesota Trad Board that one of the guys in charges of the shoot is also a member on, I'm going to let him know about my thoughts on a couple of the setups being a little on the un-safe side. Second and third setup on the Minnesota loop were not ideal.

I'm up in the air about the branches and object in front of kill zones. Makes for a challenging shoot, but I agree would never be a shot I would take at a live animal. I think they were going for a challenge more than a realistic hunting sutuation. I did like the shots where the vitals were visible, but you had to shoot through or around brush or obstacles.
Still a fun shoot, I think they had some new blood in charge of setups and I'm sure our economy had some affect on the Vendors that did not show.

Nice shooting Shultzy. Saturday I didn't even turn in my scorecard as I did not complete the coarse with my fractured 3-peice (nearly 4 peice after crack) takedown. Finished up with a Recurve I borrowed from Chad.
Sunday I shot with my trusty Dwyer Longbow and came in 12th in the Longbow group. Not bad for having not shot that bow much at all this year until then.
I shot with Paul Speral who placed second in the longbow division. He was shooting a Osage Selfbow he had made up at Chad Holms place the year before. He can shoot, I'd like to see his score if he shot a glass bow.

That's Impressive shooting on your part, specially using a bow your not used to. Some of these shooters at these events are really fun to watch. It's crazy how some of these people can be so damn on all the time, It's really awesome watching It!!
