Thread: Decent gas mileage trucks?

  1. #1

    Question Decent gas mileage trucks?

Ok I am really thinking about getting a "new to me truck", I don't want to have the payments for a brand new one.

So what are some good models and years to look into as far as being a good reliable truck that gets decent gas milage(say mid to upper teens)?

I am wanting a 1/2 ton with 4 wheel drive and at least a four door extended cab or a quad cab. And I would like to keep it fairly reasonable on price since I have other stuff I need also. I would like it to be a fairly new model but doesn't have to be.

    Thanks for any info.

I have an 04 Ford sitting in the driveway right now that I got for the weekend to try and they gave me $30 for gas for it. So I am trying it. So far I really like it. The body has some scratches and a few small dents but I have a good buddy that can do that stuff that I am hoping can cut me some of a deal if I was to get that truck. Either way it doesn't really bother me, heck I know I'm gonna put a few scratches on it and possibly a dent.
I will try and post a some more info on it tomorrow and possibly a pic.
I really like the truck but am going to do a little looking around still.

    Default New Question

Ok I am now wondering if I would be kicking myself for getting a regular extended cab instead of a quad cab. What is everyone's thouht on that? Anyone have any regrets either way of picking one over the other?

    Default Maybe this one

Here is the one I am test driving right now that I really like.
I hate to rush into getting anything but I look at some other brands, models and years and this is the one I seem to like the best.
It seems nice to me but that's coming after me driving my 2000 two wheel drive Ford Ranger for a couple years.
I am still undecided. It's so hard to decide what to do! I have never had to pick one and decide like this before. I return this one tomorrow so I still have some more time to think about it.

Thats a nice looking truck, Of course a 4 door would be nicer all around, you gotta ask yourself if you need and if you do is it worth it. I have always been a ford fan. Its the only 1 of the big 3 that is not hurting. I bought a jeep jk this last winter. I like it because I can go anyplace I want without worry, but wish I had a pickup. So take your time and do want you want and need. Maybe wait a week and they will put cash for clunkers rolling again. I will not by GM now because of Obama and feds, Its sad because we have a real nice Tahoe now and for once we both like it. And it gets grat gas milage for a big truck 16-18 around town.

I decided I am going to go with the crew cab. Not positive on a brand or model yet.

I will be seeing what is out there. There is a Chevy at the place I got the Ford from so I will probably test drive that one. I'm ready to get one. I'm probably going to try and sell my truck since they probably won't give me hardly anything for a trade in.

I highly recomend a true 4 door ..Playin that stupid chess match game of opening and closing the extended cab doors sucks, you always have to babysit everyone gettin in and out if they have never done it before..Trust me get a true 4 door or dont even get a truck.. NOT taking anything away of the guys that have the ''3rd'' or ''4th'' door but just get crew cab and be done with it and be happy...Oh yeah and get a Ford..

Me & Momma both drive pre-obama GM's and love them. Her Tahoe gets about the same city mileage you posted and 20-21 hwy mpg. I drive and 03 GMC 2500 4x4 x-cab and even though its got an 8.1L and Allison auto trans it gets around 17 hwy and thats usually with my foot in it...lol

Id think about the quad cab, if you have kids to haul around a lot its worth it, if your just going to use it yourself mainly for hunting the x-cab is plenty.

I guess Ford and Chevy haven't been making crew cabs for awhile now. They are coming out with new deals tomorrow so we will see what those consist of.
I was considering just getting a brand new one but calling around they are a little more than what I am wanting to pay. So I am most likely going the used route still.
It will be a Ford, Chevy, or Dodge 1/2 ton crew cab in dark green or blue. Not positive on a year or exact model, I am liking something around an 04 or 05 give or take a year or so.

My dad works with a guy with an 04 Ford just like the one I test drove but it is a crew cab. I am trying to get him to sell it to me but he said he likes it too much.

Dang, that's a heck of a lot better than I would have thought you would get!
I am just hoping whatever I get gets at least that good.

I am pretty sure I am going the brand new route now. Now I just need to figure out if it will be a Ford or a Chevy. So I just need to see what I can get the best deal on and do a couple final test drives.

And I guess neither Chevy nor Ford makes a new green truck, so it looks like I will be looking at a blue one.

I am going to get an 09 Ford F-150 4x4 crew cab. I am going on tomorrow and do some paper work and talk to them now I will be waiting on them to get one in. I made my final decision this weekend after really doing a lot of thinking and looking.

I think so, I really like it and am pumped to get it.
I drove and really looked hard into both Ford and Chevy and looked into Dodge some but just kept coming back to the Fords. I have always been a Chevy guy then got my Ranger and was still more of a Chevy guy but...
I just like the looks of the Fords a little better personally. Both drove nice but overall with the ride included I just liked the looks inside and out of the Ford a little better.
