Default Prayers for a friend and his family.

Just asking for prayers for a Friend, (new) hunter, Fellow Firefighter, and for his Family. He was hit on 94 just outside of Clearwater yesterday morning while on scene for a car fire. His name is Cory.

I hope that he recovers back to 100% what a shame people can't slow down. I honestly can not grasp how the VFD fire fighters do it day in and out year after year. I only do wild land fire, and get paid for it we scan the local fire frequencies and some off the calls I hear are astounding, I would be less than patient if my pager went off when I was sitting down to dinner and had to go to a call because some one burnt a pizza, or a lift assist. I am also amazed how well they deal with mangled bodies, I know if I responded to a car accident and saw car seats I would be a basket case. Some do it on a pay by call, some simply get a retirement (that is not a full retirement) after 20 years. They respond when it's cold, or hot, early or late, holiday or not. They are owed our thanks and support for how they give their time and compassion.

Here is an up date on Cory. He is in good spirits and finally got to see his kids yesterday, which was a good pick me up for him as well as his kids. He has shattered tibula and fibula on both legs and a broken left ankle. He has another surgery tomorrow (Friday) for more reconstruction on the right leg. Please keep him and his family in your prayers.

UPDATEYesterday was Cory’s first ortho appointment since leaving the hospital. The doctors reviewed his MRI and saw he has a torn MCL in his right knee. He will now be wearing a hinge brace 24/7 on that leg. They believe this should straighten out that knee and leg.

As of right now, even though the fibula in his right leg is still broken, they are not planning any more surgeries on that leg. The doctors are hoping the leg will heal on its own. This will probably make the healing process longer, but hopefully it will make the leg stronger in the long run.

They also took x-rays as a starting point of what his legs look like now. His next ortho appointment is on April 2nd where they will do x-rays again and hope to see the 1st signs of healing.

He has an appointment with the plastic surgeon on Friday morning.
As always, thank you for the continued prayers, and support.

UPDATE Some good news to report finally! Cory may get to go home on Monday! He is very excited to be able to get back home and feel normal again. Once he gets to go home, his vac on his right leg and left heel/foot will get changed at home Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The hope is that he will be able to handle these without the IV antibiotics. If he is not able to handle these without the IV antibiotics, he will have to come to the hospital 3 times a week to get them changed so he can receive the IV meds for the changes.

Not too much to report on the left foot. At this point they do not want to take a bone and bone marrow biopsy due to the fact that there is still infection in his foot. They don't want to risk the chance of spreading the current infection into the bone if it is not already as infected as they believe. So, that means that we will wait several weeks until he comes back into the hospital to close up his open wounds and at that point do an MRI and take the biopsy.

From here out it is going to be a waiting game until more testing can be done.
