Default Pics from planting my plots

I dont have many pictures of when we went to plant my two small plots, but I figured I would share the ones I have..

My plots were a mixture of annuals and perennials (clover, chicory, rape, kale, turnips, and beets), so this year we just had to reseed the annuals.

The first two pics are just pictures of what the plot looked like..clover was starting to come up already, which was good to see, and hopefully they got a big enough jump to shade out any weeds..I wish the clover wouldve been a little thicker, but I guess it is expected since it doesnt get much chance to grow the first year because of all the annuals in there. The third pic is a picture of my friend that was helpin me out dragging the seeds and fertilizer in. The last pic is one I took of how we seed the plots. We have found it easiest to use a pull-type broadcast seeder pulled by the four-wheeler, and have one person sit on the back rack facing backwards with their feet on the seeder to prevent it from tipping if there are any rough spots, and to control the rate of spread.

I havent got to go back to check on them since I planted them (April 29th), but I'll get a chance to head out to the land either this weekend or next, and I'll also pull my trailcam card and see if I have any pics of bucks starting to grow anything yet.

Got to go check on the plots this past weekend..Figured Id put up a few pics..

The first two pics are from the plot thats pictured above. It is about 1 acre, and is in an area of dug up CRP on the edge of the woods. This plot didnt do as well last year, but this year it seems to be doing very well! I am pretty excited about how this one is turning out.

The next three pics are of a smaller plot in an open area in the middle of our property. This one did excellent last year, but this year isnt looking so good. When I went to fertilize it early this spring, the clover was really thin in this plot. The biggest issue with this one is the grass growing in it, and I think if my uncle allowed, it would be pretty easy to clean it up with a little Select or similar chemical. Unfortunately he will not let me because he doesnt want a plot there and would rather have the grass and wildflowers, so spraying the grass is not an option. I am going to try to keep the plot mowed to keep the grass from going to seed, and hopefully I can keep it under control and at least make a little out of the plot.

Anyways, Im heading there this weekend to mow them off so I can get some new growth on the clover, so we'll see what happens then.

(also got a chance to check my cam and my water softner salt is getting hammered..no bucks to get excited over yet, but I'll put it on a different mineral station this weekend and see what I get)

Got to go out to my land with a couple friends this past weekend and do a little mowing. As you can see in the pics, the plots are coming along nicely.

This is the plot at the edge of woods out in the CRP. This plot has really taken off lately.

    My friend mowing..

    Pics of it finished..

This is the other plot back in the woods that was looking like it was going to get pretty overgrown with grass. It looks like the clover is starting to come in pretty nicely, and hopefully the mowing will help keep the grass down and get some new clover growth.

I probably wont get back out there again for a month or so, so we'll see how they are doing then. I also set up my trailcam on a pretty decent trail coming into the plot, so I'll see if there are any good bucks using it then...
