Thread: Summertime Yotes!

    Default Summertime Yotes!

I was wondering how many of you predator hunters chase yotes during the summer months?

I have found that by using puppy in distress sounds in the spring/early summer months that I actually do fairly well. I used to use my FoxPro until I sold it, but with enough practice you can sound pretty close with most open reed calls.

What's your thoughts on summertime coyote hunting?

If I were serious about killing a bunch of yotes (like to reduce a population in a certain area), I'd really go after them in the summer when pups are starting to hunt, etc.

But I don't do it. When I go, I like to shoot for fur. Just my preference.

I never go as often as I say I'm going to. But fawn bleats work great in the summertime. Make the bleat call as high pitched as you can, since most newborn fawns have a much higher and quieter bleat than the most calls sound like. The calls are pretty accurate for the fall when the fawns are 6 months old or so, but when they are only a few days or few weeks old and really easy pickings for coyotes they squeak more than bleat.
