Thread: Missing Brow tine

    Default Missing Brow tine

I have a buck running around that I have been getting pics of since last summer, last spring he was a short 8 he was the scrapper he had all his tines busted off the left side and he has a couple of scars on his back. This year he is tall and wider but is a 7 point with his brow tine missing, could busting off caused it not to develop? I know it more than likley can't be the cause, I have pics of him all spring he didn't injure it the tine never started growing. I have been feeding and supplied minerals, anybody have a theory?

Well if you have velvet pics of him and he didn't damage it anytime during growth and it just didn't grow one its probally genetic.as far as feeding them, mineral does absolutely nothing for antler growth but is a great way which I use as well to get deer to frequent an area to get pics.Good luck getting him if he is a shooter!!

The deer had a brow tine last year, he broke it off. This year he did not develop a brow tine, I do not know what caused the lack of development this year pretty sure it's not genes otherwise the deer would not have had one the year before. I am not even going to get into the benifits of food and minerals and how it promotes antler growth.

then it must be a mystery.if you know for a fact that he didn't damage it in velvet then its a mystery.there is no logical answer for itr if its not damage or genetic .as far as food I never said a word about food, mineral is what does absolutely nothing for antler growth.and that's a proven fact.food well that's common sense.if they didn't eat they would die .mineral is and does help there system but does nothing for antler growth.

I don't care to argue about mineral use and benifits and "proven" facts. I have heard speculation about a body injury and possible cause of a drop tine, just wondering if anyone had any theories. I imagine it is possible that after 3 years of having a brow tine and then not developing one the next year there could be a genetic factor, I don't have any pictures of deer any bucks or have witnessed any deer in the area that didn't develop a brow tine. There is no sign of an injury on the antler, if I can find the time I will post the picture of the deer.
