Default Need help - Polaris Sportsman Electrical Problems

Been having some ATV issues lately. I have a 2007 Sportsman 800. My ATV sat for about 2 months without being started and when we started getting snow here in MN I tried to start it up to plow. When I turned the key the lights and display came on but it did not start, it just clicked. I charged the battery for a few hrs and then it started. A week later, when I tried to start it, the same thing happened. Once again I charged it and it started. The battery is less than 7 months old but not under warranty so I am trying to fugure out if the problem is the battery, stator, voltage regulator or otherwise. I read online that if you get the atv started and disconnect the positive battery terminal it should still run, but if it quits you probably need a new stator. Can anyone help me figure this out? Thanks for your help.

I had The same Problem With My 2010 Polaris Ranger...Ive went thru 3 batteries in 4 months...They Found A problem in the wiring where the power was leaking constantly so you may wanna check all connections or ne possible recalls on that!

First thing I would do is clean all battery connections on your winch and your battery post.2.Give it a complete charge so you know what your working with.check it every other day or so and make sure it starts strong.3.Definetly get a battery tender to manage ur battery while the wheeler is not in use. Cleaning your battery connections just might do the trick.I big issue with wheelers and plows is they get fired up the battery gets the piss pounded out of it and doesnt run long enough to charge itself back up from the beating the winch puts on it. "reason for the battery tender" hope this helps..

Battery may also be shot.07-09 Polaris wheelers and rangers are known for battery issues.I think the deal was that the factory got a batch of bad batteries. Now I didn't hear this from a dealer but several of my buddies had issues with the same thing and they just replaced the battery and problem solved..But I couldn't recommend a battery tender anymore they are a life saver or I should say they just protect the pocket book alot..

Default you need a battery tender

I had an 05 Sportsman 700 EFI I have since sold. It had exactly the same problem. I believe like someone else said it had something to do with the winch and plow. Quite possibly the battery is not big enough to with stand the drain the winch puts on it and the wheeler can not charge it fast enough. Like most things when it is cold it takes much more power to start these machnes. A battery tender will do the trick.
