Thread: I need a lighter safety harness.....

Default I need a lighter safety harness.....

My HHS Pro, while I do love it and it's quick/easy it is to put on.....I think it's just too bulky and hot in the early fall. I have zero need for any pockets on the vest, so that part isn't important to me.

    What else should I get??

I use the one that came free with my stand. I have tried a couple (including the muddy and HSS) and like the one I have the most. I had the muddy, and although I will admit it was a much nicer harness and easier to use than my free one, I like to wear mine just on top of my most inside layer, and my free one (which is like seatbelt material) lays nicer between the layers.

It takes about 10 seconds longer to put on than the muddy, but so what? I'll start getting ready to head out 10 seconds earlier..haha. Its also as light if not lighter than the muddy.

I had to try about 10 different free harnesses before I found one I liked though..Ameristep sucked, big game sucked, lone wolf sucked, rivers edge was nice but didnt fit me right (my gf wears that one), but the one that came with my loggy bayou stand fits perfect, and once I have it on, I completely forget that its there.

    Default Sop

I really like my Seat of the Pants from Summit. I treid the HSS and took it back for the same reason you're looking now. I really like the attaced pouch for storing the straps and it packs nicely too. I have heard good things about the muddys, never tried one tho since I love the SOP.

I would've said muddy right up to the ATA show, now I have to say without a question the New Spyder by Robinson industries ( Scent Blocker). It weights 2.2 lbs and is the easiest harness to put on. I have a muddy now that I will give you a good deal on if you would like it because I'm getting the new spyder.

If you get a "lighter" safety harness you might have to get a little "lighter" too. Just saying.

I had the SOP before I went to HSS and I won't go back. I'll deal with the weight difference and keep the buckle system the HSS has. Far easier!

    Default Safety Harness

I have a Muddy....would probably buy another, but the Spider looks like a real good unit as well.

The only thing is, I remember you saying that you liked the buckle system on the HSS and hated it on the SOP, and the buckle system on the muddy is like a cam-lock thing that you have to string the strap through each time..I dont mind something like that, but it sounds like it might not be something you would like..

I have the tree stalker from HSS, got it just this season. Seems to be light weight enough for me, I keep it in the pack until I get to the tree and put it on over my clothes. The buckles are pretty quiet on it and easy to clasp. Definately beats the heck out of the strap belt I have used for the past 10 years.
