    Default Seasoning a food plot?

Anyone else ever add a mineral or liquid to a food plot to encourage the deer to eat down a plot?

Not sure if I know what you mean?

I have never had a problem getting deer to eat out of my plots..

we have mineral stations in most all our plots. never put anything all throughout the plot though. i've seen the spray you can put on but always thought it to be a waste of money.

I planted clover, turnips and rape seed last year. The rape seed grew like crazy, I was a little impatient for the frost to hit it so I dumped some swamp donkey on it in the morning when it was dew covered, the deer ate it like crazy, just looking for a mineral based liquid that I can use during the hunting season.

I planted something similar my first year as well, and the deer didnt seem to hit it until it got colder (like you mentioned), so it didnt do much good early season. Mostly because the clover doesnt really grow much the first year since it gets taken over by the other plants. The second year of it however, the clover really came up and made a nice clean stand of clover (since I didnt replant the other stuff in it)..I had no issues getting deer to eat that stuff from July through the end of hunting season..

I think you will be better off leaving the rape and turnips out of that plot (and if you want a late season food source, cut that plot in half and plant half rape/turnips (or soybeans or corn) and leave the other half straight clover. The clover will attract them like crazy all summer and throughout the hunting season..Keep it mowed down to about 6" or so to keep the new growth coming, and the deer will be all over it!

If I could only plant one thing it would be turnips, It is the perfect pre rut and rut food, the frost has hit it and it is prime time. I had the deer eat off the tops and start digging out the bulbs.

If I could only plant one thing, I would plant soybeans..They get pounded from July all the way through the winter..
