Default bikers shed thread - 2011

I've been having a little bit of success this year despite all the snow we've had. Here are a few photos from my shed ventures thus far. Nothing big so far, but hopefully that will change soon.

My first of the year! Tiny three point

My second one is also a three point. Possibly a match of the first, but not sure.

Here is a short video clip of me pulling my monster two point out of the snow.

    Dead ten point.

Went out a few weeks later with a couple of friends and found some more. First one was this 50ish" five point.

This isn't the best pic., but if you look close you can see my buddies truck behind the clump of brush. I found this one less than 50 yards from where they parked their truck.

Mike found this one, a decent five point.

Stringer shot with mine and Mike's five point sheds along with Kevin's two point.

I was driving them back to their truck when I spotted this four point in the corn.

The next day I went over to a farm in Iowa and found three more.

A few days later I went over to a different farm in Iowa with a couple of friends and we found a total of five.
Mike (not the same Mike from above) found the first one.

    He later found the match.

Nice 11 point set from an upper 130's to low 140's buck.

Mike found the next one also. A pretty little five point.

Later that afternoon I found my only sheds of the day. Little seven point set laying side by side almost completely buried in snow.

    The days stringer shot.

A guy from my archery league found this beautiful Wisconsin set.

My friend Jim found this awesome Iowa set. The set is not very symmetrical at all which is too bad. The big side has 10 total points scores about 90". The smaller side may be around 60".

Does your dog help find the sheds too, or does (s)he just accompany you in the woods?

I went down to Illinois a couple of weeks ago on my annual shed hunting trip. It was a bit disappointing... for me at least. I only found two small sheds. I have never come home with less then 11 in past years. A couple of my friends had better luck however.

Here is an atl of a decent shed that my buddy Dan picked up.

The first find for me was this dead eight point.

The first shed I picked up was this little four point in a corn field.

At about the same time that I was calling my friend Dan over to shoot some video of me picking up that little four my friend Jon started yelling from across the field that he had found a giant. This is the shed we were after. It was dropped from a huge buck known as Dagger. I took several pictures because it's just an amazing shed.

Here it is with it's new owner Jon Dittmer from Missouri. You will soon be seeing Jon on the new Drury Dream Season series "The Working Man."

    I measured the shed at 93 6/8".

Here is a picture of the match which was picked up a couple of weeks earlier by Cody Walker of Grigsby Outdoors. This shed measured close to 78".

Here they are back together at last.

Pretty good history with this buck. His sheds have been picked up four out of the last five years. Here are his sheds from two years ago.

Not the best photo, but here they are all together.

The next day I found this old dinosaur in a picked bean field. Been out the a couple of years. It has disk marks on it and it's broke in half just past the G2.

Here it is removed from its shallow grave.

Then I found another dead eight point.

Later that afternoon my buddy Dan picked up this nice one in some tall grass. We guessed it at 66-68". Not bad for a four point.

Then just before dark he found this really cool shed. Has seven total points with good mass. It has like two G2's side by side and one of them is split.

Dan and I were supposed to leave straight from Illinois out to Montana on a shed hunting trip, but it was canceled due to bad weather. We decided to stay an extra day in Illinois and then hit a farm in east central Iowa on the way home. Dan found I think five more on that last day in Illinois, but I got skunked. Then in Iowa he found one and I picked up these three.

This last one that I found was my nicest one of the year to this point. I haven't put a tape to it yet, but I'm sure it will go in the very high 50's.

She mostly just accompanies me in the woods, but she does pick up a few. She has been good for at least one a year since she was a pup (she's almost six now). In 2008 she picked up her biggest shed in a corn field in Minnesota. A seven point that scores around 80".

    Default Wisconsin Big Buck Classic

Went to the Wisconsin Big Buck Classic in Wisconsin Dells on the 12th.It was a pretty good time. Lots of big stuff to see. Here are a few pics.

There was a world class collection of shed antlers there. The sheds are owned by Matt Beard and Mike Charowhas. I didn't have a chance to meet Matt, but Mike was a super nice guy. He answered any questions you had about the sheds and would let you hold them too! I probably could've spent all day just hanging out at their booth... the wife probably would've gotten a little bored though.

The Lakosky's were there again this year too. Lee told me that he had picked up over 250 sheds already. Wouldn't mind spending a day looking down on their farm!

I went out shed hunting with a couple friends about a week and a half ago. Was checking out a south facing slope when a came across this nice four point tines down. Should score in the mid 60's. Haven't had a chance to put a tape on it yet.

I spent the next hour or so checking the hillside for the match, but had no luck. Managed to find this decent five point single though.

I got split up from my friends and wasn't able to get a hold of them on my cell phone due to bad reception. I wanted to let them know I had found a shed and was searching for the match. Turns out they had found the match way at the top of the hill and weren't able to contact me. Kind of funny that we were all searching so hard for an antler that had already been found. Here they are matched up. I plan on bringing these to shed fest to have them officially scored.

It was a pretty successful day. Here are a couple of photos of what we found that day.

I didn't have to work the next day, so I headed up to a property that I have permission on in Buffalo County, Wisconsin. I usually have pretty good luck on this farm, but all I was able to come across were these two year old ones. I guess I missed them last year... The first one is decent. Scores 58".

The next day I was able to get out for a few hours before I had to go to work. Was looking in a small standing corn field when my dog picked up this little two point. Unfortunately, that's the only one that this farm produced for me this spring... last year I found eight out there . I had three trail cameras up and got pictures of two different guys, so maybe they picked some up.

My friend Brett and I went over to Iowa to pull out the last of our tree stands. Did a little walk through when we were finished and found a few sheds. I picked up the first three. The first one was fresh, but chewed.

The second and third were old and chewed. Also a match I think.

    A dead buck I found.

I would've traded all of my finds for the shed that Brett picked up. It's a nice seven point shed. Probably scores in the low to mid 60's.
