Post Sure to be a robust debate

I am sure many of your received the same note from Sen. Miller, but for those of you that did not, here is a copy. I would encourage all TMH interested parties to not only attend but participate in the debate.

    Dear David,

Thanks for letting me know your thoughts on the Zone 3 hunting regulations. I have heard from hunters throughout our state on both sides of the controversial issue of antler point restrictions and cross-tagging.

In order to provide an opportunity for hunters to express their views on these rules, I have scheduled a townhall listening session in Winona. I have invited representatives from the DNR and a spokesman from the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association and the Bluffland Whitetail Association, and I expect to have a free and open conversation about these issues. Please join us if you are interested.

The meeting is Wednesday, April 20, 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Minnesota State College-Southeast Technical Student Center, 1250 Homer Road in Winona (Park in the rear lot and enter door H or J). I hope to see you there!

Today I met with the DNR and am committed to working with them and with deer hunters to try to find a solution.

    Best regards,

    Jeremy

This "petition" is set up well, I encourage all to sign it. http://www.change.org/petitions/supp...-943-and-hf984

it automatically sends the following to a ton of legislators.

    Greetings,

This letter is to state that I do not agree with the language that has been added to H. F. No. 984 and will potentially be added to S.F. 943. The language I am referring to is stated as follows:

25.29 Sec. 62. DEER HUNTING RULES.
25.30 (a) The commissioner of natural resources shall not adopt a rule applicable for the
25.31 Series 300 deer permit areas that:
    (1) imposes an antler point restriction for taking antlered 26.1 deer other than that
26.2 imposed under Minnesota Rules, part 6232.0200, subpart 6; or
26.3 (2) prohibits party hunting for antlered deer according to Minnesota Statutes, section
    26.4 97B.301, subdivision 3.
26.5 (b) The commissioner of natural resources shall amend Minnesota Rules, part
26.6 6232.1300, subpart 3, item B, to allow legal bucks to be taken in season option A for a
26.7 nine-day period beginning the Saturday nearest November 6. The commissioner may use
26.8 the good cause exemption under Minnesota Statutes, section 14.388, subdivision 1, clause
26.9 (3), to adopt rules under this section, and Minnesota Statutes, section 14.386, does not
26.10 apply except as provided in Minnesota Statutes, section 14.388.

The current rules that are being trialed are already a compromise of what two groups of deer hunters want and to cater to one would not be fair. The passage of the bill with this language will lead to a potentially dangerous situation where we are allowing the wildlife populations of Minnesota to be managed by the citizens of the State and not the trained and more qualified biologists. We should allow this 3 year trial to continue its course.

Please take/keep the above stated language out of the bill.

    Thank you.

DOR is correct. Take the time to do this, please!

Also, contact your representative and senator and let them know your stance. Phone, email, however you can do it.

I met with Rep. McNamara yesterday in St. Paul and he said this is the best way to effect change. Most of these men and women don't know the ins and outs of various issues, so they vote on bills according to how their constituents tell them to vote.
