Thread: I'm done....giving it up.

    Default I'm done....giving it up.

Well I guess that's the goal at least. After chewing for well over 20 years, I'm going to give it my best shot at giving it up. God help my wife and the people I work with! ha, ha

Anyone else quit smoking or chewing cold turkey?

First off, congrats on making the decision..thats one of the hardest parts!

I smoked for a few years, was even up to over a pack a day for a couple of them (I also chewed here and there..mostly as a hobby ) I hated the way I felt when I woke up in the morning and how much money it was costing me. I just decided one morning that I wasnt gonna smoke anymore, and completely quit, but quickly picked up chewing full time. Working construction/farming type jobs, it was quite easy to keep a dip in throughout most of the day. I then decided I needed to quit that too, so I quit that cold turkey.

It was really tough for the first two weeks, and your mind will keep telling you that its ok to have a dip just this once, and you will have trouble concentrating without it and stuff, but it eventually goes away. After a little while, it will never even cross your mind. (and dont keep a "reserve tin" around for "just in case"..get rid of it - if its not there, you dont have a choice)

Keep the goal in mind, each day will get easier! IMO, with something like tobacco, where there isnt a physical addiction, cold turkey is the way to go

BTW, I dont have any more money now, but I have alot more useful stuff!

    I used to limit myself to about 5 a day.. 6-9am, 930-noon, 12:30-3:30pm, 4-6pm, and 6-9pm

Gutting it didnt help anything either

    Good luck Stump and Franny!

I use to smoke a bit, but gave it up after working on the ambulance. I hauled in enough lung hackers to decide I didn't want it to be me someday. I was gonna quit cold turkey, but never could resist a smoke while tying one on. I chew camel frost snus now (maybe a tin a week). Not to encourage anyone, but that stuff is like candy...

Good luck to you guys on quiting. Franny I know a guy who smoked for about 50 years, and gave it up cold turkey. He said if he knew it would have been so easy he would have done it a lot sooner. His whole life and health turned around and he looked 100% better a week after he quit.

It's going by fine, 3:00 pm will be a full 24 hrs without chew. Just might be the longest stretch that I haven't had a chew since I was ohhhh 12-13. LOL It is only the first day, but it's not as bad as I had thought it would be. I haven't wanted to rip anyone's head off yet, so I suppose that's good!

Yeah it will probably get a little tougher as the week goes on, but that first 24 hours is a big step!

Today?? It was hell. By far the worst day yet and I don't know why. I figured that day 1-3 would have been the worst. My brother was over this past weekend(Fri afternoon and 11 hrs on Sat) building a shed in my backyard. He chews and I made it all weekend not even really craving one. This afternoon hits and all I wanted to do was go get a tin. Bizarre.

The biggest thing that I've noticed is that I'm hungry alllllllll day long.

Good luck i quit smoking the day i met my wife. (I will only go out with you if you quit.)
    I went from 3-4 packs a day to 0.
    Day one was ok
Day 2-7 KILL ME KILL ME KILL ME KILL ME
DAY7-14 the shaking was still there but withdrawls werent as bad.
day 14-now. I still get massive cravings and it has been 3 years.
