My cousin Jared got his first turkey this season!!(first season hunting) He hunted with me pretty much most of the season and had a handful of chances on birds but we just couldn't make it happen until the second to last day. He shot a nice jake for his first turkey and I'm pretty sure he called them back in after we had the jake and two toms within 20 yards and they walked off. It was awesome to see how excited he was!!
This was a great season not only for my cousin Jared but for pretty much all of my friends and family that I hunt with. As a total we killed 18 turkeys I think, which was awesome compared to about the last 3 to 5 seasons.
Two of my cousins got their first turkeys, Jared and Chelsea, and that is the highlight of the season for me really is that they could experience what most of us have. I personally saw 5 turkeys die this season and another one of my cousins, Brett saw 7 die.
LOL it was quite different for me from last season not even taking a gun out and hunting to having a great season this year. I killed one of my biggest birds a 26 pounder with 10 5/8 inch beard and 1 1/4 inch spurs. Then my other one only weighed 16 pounds but had a 10 1/2 inch beard and 1 inch spurs.
Like I said it was a great seaon for many of us. The bird numbers seemed to be up and they responed to calls and decoys very well this season.
Hope everyone else had a great fun season too and good luck this fall!
