    Default Gov Shutdown and You

I'm sure some of you from MN got this email, but I thought I would pass along...

There have been media stories about the impact of the shutdown on parks, but not as many discussing the other effects of the shutdown on functions of the MN Department of Natural Resources (MN DNR). I have attached a letter from the DNR I received relating to issuing temporary licenses. This will affect hunters opportunities to hunt in the Fall. "TEMPORARY" ? FISHING LICENSES Attached is a letter that the MN DNR Commissioner sent regarding fishing licenses. HUNTING SEASONS AT RISK The fall hunting seasons have not been set by the MN DNR. The seasons are set through a rule making process with an Administrative Law Judge. Waterfowl seasons are set to be made through recommendations to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. This is a collaborative process with the federal government for migratory birds. A rulemaking order has to occur to set the seasons. The hunting synopsis has not been printed as the seasons are not set. The bear season is supposed to have hunters buy their license by July 29. The fall turkey season lottery is also usually occurring now. Several hunting seasons usually begin in early September. The state electronic licensing system is shutdown. The longer the shutdown goes, the farther behind we will be in setting the seasons and issuing licenses. This could have a dramatic impact on tourism and our economy...as well as ongoing budget problems with fee- and license-supported outdoor projects and programs. ...and they are sticking to it unlike the POS Gov who vowed to never let a shutdown happen...

In all honesty both sides need to get their crap together, and get it figured out. They are affecting sportsmen and women, and the beer they drink.

The governor is conceeding to the GOP. He wanted to raise funds to get us out of the hole but the GOP doesn't want to do that they just want to borrow more money and put us farther in debt.

And let's hope they continue to stand their ground and don't give into what Dayton came back at them with. From what I read, still no major cuts and no slashing of big government. Keep the government shut down. And yes, even if it affects hunting and drinking beer.

I think you have that backwards. Dayton wants to tax more to spend more. GOP wants to cut spending and doesn't want to tax "the rich". Raising funds will not get us out of a hole, cutting spending and cutting taxes will.

The GOP isn't cutting any taxes! How do you figure that we will get out of the hole when the GOP wants to borrow money to balance the budjet rather tahn figure out a way to creat income to balance the budjet??

Where did you read the GOP is going to borrow money? Link?

Do you honestly think the only way to "right the ship" is to raise more revenue?

You're misinformed and your statement doesn't make any sense. A balanced budget is when your spending is equal to the revenue that you take in. You don't balance a budget by borrowing to cover a shortfall.

The GOP doesn't want to increase revenue (taxes) because the "rich" are the people that create jobs and are already paying the bulk of the taxes in this state and in this country. The GOP has a "crazy" idea that we should live within our means with the revenue that is currently being generated. If we can't afford something then we just don't buy it!!! The liberals want to take more money out of the hands of private individuals because the government has shown us that they are so much better at managing it. What a joke.

One more thing. The Democrats are the only ones that want to borrow more money and saddle us with more debt. Take a look at what is going on in Washington with raising the debt ceiling by another $2.4 trillion. The GOP is fighting it tooth and nail and the Democrats want to keep borrowing so Eddy the crack head can get his welfare check on time.

I guess I have one more thing (can't help sparring with a liberal I guess). Government doesn't "create income" as you have stated. They TAKE income, piss away 70 cents on the dollar and then attempt to push it back into our economy.

Have you guys even been paying attention to what is going on?? Obviously not by your statements!! Watch the news, read the paper, look at the websites and listen to the experts!! It isn't hard to figure that the proposed budget is just going to put us in the same F'ing mess we are in right now in 2 years. I'm done arguing with abunch of one sided ignorant people. You guys can piss and moan about what you don't know!!

I see where your getting your information now. The left wing liberal media that use nothing but invalid scare tactics to make people think the sky is falling. Enjoy the kool-aid.

But you are right, the current budget just isn't enough. CUTS need to be made, the amount of revenue isn't the problem. MN needs WI's governor. I wonder if they would do a 2 for 1 trade. Franken and Dayton.

Where do you guys get your information from?? Some fairytale land that doesn't exist??

I don't know what if any cuts need to be made other than peoples salaries. I do think we need to figure out a way to bring in the revenue to balance the budget rather than borrowing the money and not giving the money to the schools that is already owed to them.

I should know better than to argue with someone that is ignorant but I will make a couple of points.

    1) I agree that the proposed budget doesn't fix any problems.

    2) The "proposed" budget wasn't what the GOP was looking for, or the liberals for that matter. All of them caved and passed the buck. That's politics for you.

You willing to take on a tax increase for yourself or does it just sound good when it affects someone else? I already know the answer to that question but here is a good illustration that even you might understand:

U.S. Tax System explained in Beer

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100.

If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.

    The fifth would pay $1.

    The sixth would pay $3.

    The seventh would pay $7.

    The eighth would pay $12.

    The ninth would pay $18.

The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

So, that's what they decided to do. The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. 'Since you are all such good customers,' he said, 'I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20. 'Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what about the other six men - the paying customers?

How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his 'fair share?' They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer. So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.

And so the fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings)..

The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings).

The seventh now pay $5 instead of $7 (28%savings).

The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).

The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 ( 22% savings).

The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).

Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free..

But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings...

'I only got a dollar out of the $20,' declared the sixth man.

He pointed to the tenth man,' but he got $10! ''Yeah, that's right,' exclaimed the fifth man.

'I only saved a dollar, too.. It's unfair that he got ten times more than I! ''That's true!!' shouted the seventh man.

'Why should he get $10 back when I got only two?

The wealthy get all the breaks!

''Wait a minute,' yelled the first four men in unison. 'We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!

'The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up. The next night the tenth man ( the richest) didn't show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn't have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!

And that, boys and girls, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.
