Punters should not be calling out real football players.

Punters can't? Why not?? Their players too with a very Important role. At least he had the marbles to do so.

Couldn't agree more Schultzy. Not sure why Kluwe would have any less right to an opinion than anyone else.

I'd be willing to bet that anyone who say punters and kickers should have no say and that they "aren't real athletes", if given the chance to kick a ball in the NFL and make 500k or a million a season....they'd jump at the chance.

But I agree, who cares if Kluwe is throwing in his 2 cents around. Tough to hang with Kluwe with words anyway, especially from a nobody in Nate Jackson. The vast majority of them all are overpaid cry babies.

Agreed! Like he mentioned in the articles I linked..how well can the other players on the team punt a football? Is it a job just anyone can do? No..

Here are links to the full conversations between him and Jackson..Jackson's reply to Kluwe's tweet first, then Kluwe's reply to Jackson..

And lets be honest here - the punter probably put up the best stats of any player on the vikings team last season...

So don't know if you have watched the NFL, ever see a kicker or punter make a tackle? You know the kickers and punters play cards at practice? I think kickers are an important part of the game and that is unfortunate. I have coached football for going on 8 years and every young man that kicked the ball was a little squirrelly.

Right - obviously they dont tackle or anything, but have you ever seen a middle linebacker or wide receiver drain a 50-yard game-winning field goal?

I hear what you are saying, but just because they dont tackle or run routes doesnt mean they arent part of the team and dont have valid opinions - especially when it involves their contracts and salaries...

If we're going to use tackling as the guage of whether someone is a real football player then I think we should rule out quarterbacks as well. They tackle about as often and as well as kickers do...

I think your comparison would be valid if the QB was on the field at the time a tackle would be a normal part of the play like a kick off for example.

Lol 10 Point! Bottom line Is special teams are a VERY Important part of the game. Yes your right, their tackling Is almost funny to watch. Kicking a 50 yard bomb for a field goal Is awesome though. Ever watched Kluwe punt 10 point? The guy Is good. Good post Cornfed and RR.

4th and 1 at the 50 yard line, nothing prettier than a punt? How about a hard fought battle among titans it's 4th and 1 at the 30 yard line and out trots some player with a name you can't pronounce wearing shoes that don't match, oh I love watching that

Yep you are right..punters and kickers have no place on the team, and teams should just do away with them... is that what you are waiting for one of us to say?

Is your job so much more interesting and exciting that you bash another man for doing his? Now I'm curious, what do you do for a living?

I really don't see making fun of a kicker as bashing a man, they are kickers and punters. Ask any NFL position or skill player if kickers are normal football players and there isn't one that will say they are. Not saying there may be exceptions but the ones I have met all put an * by punters and kickers as far as being "real" players.

Yes special teams are an important part of the game but those positions used to be filled by guys that wanted to play the game not just kick. Look at the old players, Fred Cox was drafted out of college as a fullback. Mark Mosley drafted as a linebacker. Ray Guy and Reggy Roby actually ran down the field on punt coverage. That does not happen and has not happened in the NFL in the last 10 years, Fuad Rueves for the vikings was the last kicker I saw actually attempt to tackle, rather than having a slap fight going down the sideline.

Lighten up I was not suggesting that we tar and feather kickers and punters, simply poking fun at the former soccer players.
