Default Anyone ever tried a chip for their truck??

I am considering getting a chip for my truck. I have a '05 F-150 that gets terrible gas mileage (around 12 mpg). I have found several online that claim to add 4-7 mpg and 50 hp. Supposedly you simply plug it into your vehicle's computer and the install takes 15 mins. If this is true I am looking at a 30 percent increase in mileage. Sounds too good to be true. The chip costs about $70. Has anyone ever tried this on their truck and did it live up to the hype? Any insight would be appreciated.

I used to sell these and have personally used them myself. They do work if you purchase the right one.I have found that the cheap off beat no name chips do not work as well. These are definetly a case of you get what you pay for..One thing that goes hand in hand with making power is letting the engine breath more.more power more air.You will get the most out of a chip both mileage and power if you back it up with a good quality air filter system."K&N" or something similar is a must when making power with a chip.I hope this helps.

My brother just recently did this. He has a 2008 or 2009 F-250 with a 5.4 that gets terrible mileage. He was getting around 12 before and this last weekend when we went up north bear hunting he was getting a little over 14 and yes his power Increased some too. He had his foot In It on the trip up being we were In a hurry so I'm guessing his mileage would've been another mpg better I bet. He paid 400.00 for this chip. He'll pay for that chip In time with better fuel mileage.

Just be careful that if you have remaining factory warranty that you don't void it. Obviously on the 2005 you don't but for anybody looking at doing it with warranty.
