Default Noobie, just out of the military, broke college student looking for a place to hunt

Hey name is Chris, just got out of the military. Havent been able to get into the woods in four years now. Just moved to Winona to go back to school, but am from southeastern Wi. Hunted for 4 years before I joined the military and all I ever got was a couple does during T zone. Being right over the border from Buffalo County, and a Wisconsin resident I am looking for a place to hunt over there. I have never gotten a buck during gun season, let alone seen one so I figure what better place to look than there. Is there anywhere I should check out for hunting this year or did I wait to long? Mind you I am on a budget so I highly doubt I can afford to go to the one of the big places you find on the internet from those parts. Any ideas appreciated!
    Thanks guys

Probably too late to get a permit to hunt dairyland powers off site, but look into the Tiffany bottoms near Alma. Also, it Doesn't cost too much for a non resident tag in Minnesota. Great hunting in the south east corner of the state and lots of public hunting land. If you do your homework you can find a lot of good land to hunt that is open to the public. Good luck.
