Thread: Best Camera??

My team members and I thoroughly enjoy our Moultrie Game Spy M-80's. They take awesome night and day pictures, they have video mode and plot watcher. We've had numerous times this summer when a small buck would trigger the initial picture and a mature deer would sneak in 20 seconds later (since we have it set on one pic followed by 30 second video, we are able to see the buck on the vid). The plot watcher mode though isn't my first choice setting for the cam, is nice when you aquire a new property and aren't exactly sure where the deer are moving. We set the camera for a week on plot mode, see where the majority of the deer move though, then move the cam and change it back to a regular setting (pic-vid). Plus the price is great, we picked up some of ours on sale for $120.

I have never used a reconyx camera, but have heard amazing things about them. Personally I can't afford them, and even if I could afford one, I would much rather run 4 Moultrie M-80's instead of 1 reconyx.

Just my two cents. Hope it helps ya out!

If your looking for the pic quality around the same or a little better than the moultrie I40 the new moultries are worth taking a look at. The D55IR and M80 are much improved in trigger speed over the I40 and take better quality pics as well. The D55IR is more similar to the set up of the I40 with around the same size detection area and picture size. The M80 is very similiar to the bushnell trophy cam. Its small in size, has a wide field of view and takes AA batteries all like the trophy cam. Both these cameras can be found for 100-150 bucks. My local walmart has the m80s for $100 which is 50 less than cabelas. I love trail cameras and getting pics but even if i could afford the 500+ dollar cameras i don't know if i could justify spending that much. I would much rather expand my firearm or bow collection, that i can keep in my home under lock and key rather than investing all that cash to leave it on tree for any tom, dick or harry to come mess with or take. Just my opinion. I think there are definately more solid choices for cameras under 200 than ever before. here are three pics. I40 on top, then D55IR and then M80 to give you an idea of the picture comparison.

And heres something for comparison for you - The cuddebacks have a fast trigger time, but a very narrow detection zone, which is how they always get the subject of the photo in the middle of the photo. The bushnells have a very wide zone of detection, so you will get more pictures of animals traveling through the area, but they will not always be centered in the pic like cudde claims theirs does. Also, every once in a while (rare though), I will get a blank picture and from what I read online, its from the detection zone being a little wider than the camera lens, and since the trigger time is like 1.2 seconds, it will sometimes detect the animal and snap the pic before its even in the camera view..but if you dont have the delay set on the cam, it will take another pic within 7-8 seconds, so you still get pics of the animal.. The bushnells are the same as the coverts and the scoutguards, but come with a 2-year warranty vs a 1 with the other cams.
Thanks Cornfedkiller! I looked at the pics and they are good quality. Is yours the 8.0 or 5.0 model? I am pretty sure I am going to buy a 8.0 model this weekend.
Is it November 2012 yet?? 2011 sucked arse for me!!

Mine is the 8.0, but I run it on 5..takes up less space, and 5mp is plenty for the size of pics you want - its not like we're blowing these things up to poster size..

I had a conversation with a guy on another site who has had plenty of issues with his trophy cams and got fed up with them and switched to something else...he went with the DLC Covert CA 3.0..the night range isnt QUITE as good as the trophy cam, but the picture quality, trigger time, battery life, etc, etc, etc are all identical, and they retail for $120. They only have a 1 year warranty however, but I know alot of guys that get many years out of their other DLC cams...also, their customer service is top notch. I think it might be my next cam when it comes time for me to get another one (I just bought another trophy cam a week ago, so it will be awhile)..

I'm a Reconyx nut, I have 3 of them. I know for a fact these camera's will not miss a thing. I don't have that confidence with any other camera out there. I just recently bought 2 466 Bushnell camera's. They have audio and so far I'm loving them. There right around 160.00 dollars I believe and their a black flash.

    Default Reconyx or Moultree 100

I have a Reconyx 60 that I have had for years and it is still awesome. Battery life is 3 months depending on the pics taken. Night photos are not the best, but they don't even know it is there. I also have the New Reconyx 600 Hyperfire which is unreal good. 12 Lithium batteries last all year. They both have a ton better trigger speeds than any other camera. I just bought a Moultree 100 this year. Ebay $165 shipped to me. It takes unreal photos, has a viewing screen inside. It is the first camera that tells me to spend $165 and trust in it rather than spending the $500 on the Reconyx.

I have to agree with everyone else that Reconyx is the BEST camera out. For the $200 or under price it will be hard to find a better camera with the features and the 2 year warranty the the LTL ACORN cameras. Read the review on Chasingame.

To follow up on an earlier post. My brother bought 2 Moultrie M100's and I am very impressed to say the least.....when you are comparing price factor. He got them on sale for $150 each. We set one up to take 1 picture and then immediately take a 5 second video clip. The pics themselves are pretty good and just a small downgrade from a Reconyx in picture quality. The videos aren't perfectly clear, but what can you expect from a trail camera? It's not a high priced video camera with zoom and focus. What is yet to be determined is how durable the cameras will be, how long the battery life is and IF there is a problem with them how good will their customer service be. It is early, but I can say this. If I had to pay full price on a Reconyx and money was a little tight.....I would buy 3 of these before I would buy 1 Reconyx. I think we are going to like them a lot. I will add some pics and videos from them on this thread later in the fall.

I was playing around with a Moultree M80 this past weekend and hated the pic quality for animals that are moving. Very blurry, is this normal on all IR camera's? Is the M100 an upgraded version of the M80 ( I assume) Josh did you notice this with your testing? Note: I have never used an IR camera before. I love flash camera's.

Are moving deer picture taken with the Reconyx blurry?

I think for the most part IR cams are blurry on moving deer.....unless they are at a slow walk I'm guessing. I will pay attention to this the next time I check my cams

I wonder what causes that? I have not worked with IR cams much to know. But the color cams usually seem to be a lot better when the deer is on the move.

I can't believe how good some of the cams for $150 and under have gotten over the last two years. Does anyone else still use flash camera's? A couple years ago I thought I was in the majority with the flash cams, now I feel I am in the minority?

The shutter has to be open longer during an IR exposure, to capture more light. So naturally, any major movement is going to affect your picture quality.

In my opinion there Isn't a better trail camera with video's then the 466 2011 Bushnells. It's In HD, quality Is awesome! $199.00 dollar trail camera. Here's what I believe Is a 2.5 year old 8 point.

Here's some bear footage. You can hear the background of the woods some. Turn your sound the whole way up.

If money was no option, definitely Reconyx.
For under $200, I can't complain a bit about the Bushnell Trophy Cam. I've owned a lot of different trail cameras. You get what you pay for, but I think your money goes a lot further with the Trophy Cam.
