    Default Year of Firsts

This is my fourth year of hunting and with every year I learn something different about hunting and grow to love the outdoors more and more. I dont get too many chances to get out in the woods so when I do I really appreciate it. I bow hunted early this season with not much luck didnt see many deer till the day before gun season opened up but wasnt able to get a shot, I was just happy to see deer. So the gun season started out the same way as early bow season didnt see hardly any deer just a little spike buck on that sunday of the first weekend, plus there was alot of orange in the woods where I was hunting but that is a different story! I figured I would take the next Friday off work and go in the am. hoping nobody would be out there. Well Friday am. came and I didnt get goin till late I guess I dont know how to set an alarm on my phone very good. I got about a half hour drive to where I hunt and about a 20 min. walk to where I was goin to sit. Needless to say I didnt get to where I was gonna sit till 6:50 am. Honestly didnt think I was goin to see a thing the way the previous weekend was plus there was a small amount of snow so walkin out there I was exactly stealthy if you know what I mean. I walked all the way to the back corner of the property along the fenceline halfway down a hill and found a nice spot against a tree. I sat down and it wasnt five minutes later I heard some crunching and figured it was squirrels, but when I looked up the hill about 35 yds. away in some thick brush by a blown over tree I saw a whitetail, thats all I could see, walking calmly away from me and for whatever reason he decided to turn back toward me and then go down the hill about 15 yds straight down into an open area and I could tell he had four pts. on one side and I was instantly pumped! He was movin slow so I let a lil grunt he looked right at me broadside and thats all she wrote one shot and he didnt go anywhere! I filled my first buck tag in 15 min. of hunting! I was so happy to kill my first buck and to be able to do it on my late Grandparents land meant the world to me they would've been so proud! Then on Sunday I went with a couple friends to drive some land to try to fill some tags. We started out at my friends land who's parents are like parents to me and I was walkin through some crp that had a small path thru the middle and to my left 5 yds away a doe was just watchin me walk by so we stared at eachother for a second and she still didnt move and so I put my gun on her and she was done. I felt kinda bad cause she didnt run and it felt like I was cheating somehow. So I gutted it and my buddies dad and I dragged it down a hill and up hill and across a chisel plowed field and that to me was just as meaningful and shootin that buck, I wouldnt have wanted to drag that doe with anyone else and to me that doe was just as much a trophy as the buck to me This was my most successful deer huntong to date. First Buck. First year to fill both of my tags. Now time to buy a muzzleloader!
