    Default Illinois Muzzleloader Buck

Just sharing a pic of a tall tined 4x4 buck that I was fortunate enough to take Friday (opening morning) of our firearm season.

A clean, symetrical 8 with 14"+ G2's make him a cool lookin' trophy! He should make a great lookin' mount.

Thanks for the congrats guys! He was actually a Buck that we had somewhat of a relationship with this season. We have numerous video clips and trail cam pix of the Buck, especially since Oct 23. I was also fortunate enough to glimpse him from bowstands twice, on Oct 31 and Nov 14, and after some final stand adjustments I was able to get a 38 yard shot at the buck on Nov 18, opening day of our firearm season. Granted, I REALLY wanted him a bow but still pleased to tag him with my muzzleloader.

The heartbreak in the story is that it was my 12 year old son that was supposed to be set up to get a shot at the buck that morning. But of course, big bucks seem to never play by the script and this guy was no exception. This Buck was actually following a Doe (that had passed about 15 minutes earlier) but moved in from behind and to the right of my sons stand. Wether a swirl of wind or perhaps a bit of movement..... the buck knew something wasn't right and he turned to slip away. As he stiff legged away he broadsided in front of my stand and I took the shot. As much as we wanted my son to have a chance at him we were still all excited to put the buck on the ground! My son was still excited because he actually got to witness the shot.

    some vid clips.....

    some trailcam pix....

Why and how can you hunt hard all season for a quality buck with a BOW...... and then manage to fill BOTH Buck tags with a muzzleloader.... and have those deer come within BOW range ?!? LOL!

Filled my 2nd buck tag today with this big bodied 11 pt (opening day of our "2nd Season") at only 25 yards! LOL! Frustrating..... but still satisfying.

It looks like you've had a pretty awesome season. Congrats!!! So did you make another trip to the taxidermist? I made my second one this season. The last one was about 17 years ago. Thats with deer anyway. The 8 point I shot this year would fit inside the rack of the big 8 I have on the wall now, but he's the second biggest deer I've ever shot. Anyway shooting two deer in one season that are worthy of a trip to the taxidermist thats just awesome!

Thanks Big 8! I've had a fortunate season with the muzzleloader, thats for sure! This one I'm not getting a shoulder mount, just a skull mount will do. Honestly, if he hadn't busted off his G4's I probably would have went ahead and got him mounted. Good thing..... 'cuz the Wife isn't the biggest fan of $550 deer heads.... especially 2 of them in a season! LOL!

Congrats to you on your Buck that you're getting mounted! I know I WISH I could find an unbelievable monster 8 like you've taken already ?!?
