IF these deer are in fact livestock, then clearly this is not an example of trophy hunting and is the furthest thing from it really. Weak stretch there bud.

The better term would be "antler" hunting, which correlates with today's version of trophy hunting.

A couple young girls shoot a couple monster Bucks....... SOOOOOOOO ?!?

    Sounds legit to me........

"My dad has hunted here before and knows the area where we were sitting. Some of the neighbors had photographs from trail cameras of the deer I shot," Kayley said.
How many pen raised deer have their photos taken on the neighbors trailcams ?!? HUH ?!?

Then there is this quote from the county WARDEN !!!

"This success couldn't happen to a nicer group of people and it's great to see this hunting tradition continue," the Richland County warden said.
Some people try to damn to hard to put others down. Why is that? Jealousy ?!?

People constantly jumping to unfounded conclusions is ruining the sport. Attack me for being a "trophy" hunter (which I'm not), but leave acouple of young girls with a great story out of it.

So I just got done reading the article about these young girls and there succes. WOW I dont know what you read about this or saw that is ruining our sport. The only thing I could read into this is JEALLUSY. If anything else for young girls to shoot a couple of bucks like this will help keep these girls be hooked for life to continue to hunt and pass on the hunting tradition someday. I am hear to tell you in our part of wi. lots of the kids dont even hunt anymore after a few years of not seing any deer they find other things to do rather that sitting in the cold watching nothing. Congratulations girls a job well done.

Did you not see the Ear tags in these bucks?? Does the Wisconsin DNR ear tag all their deer now?? Also why the Red Tags on the antlers Wisconsin doesn't register their deer with red tags.

I see the ear tag....fishy? yes. If its "wild" then why the tag? And what happened to his eye!?

I 'personally' dont think "trophy hunting" is ruining the sport (I stress personally, as it is MY opinion) I DO however believe media, and the B.S. hype behind it is ruining our sport...fact is most people are VERY lucky to ever see a 150" buck in their life. But then we see the "PRO" hunters on TV taking 160-180" bucks every week, this leads the struggling amatuer to believe..."hey, if I have the same gear as that "PRO" then I will shoot big bucks like that too!" which in turn leads to outrageous prices for all the crap we "think" we NEED to be successful.

I know the writer who wrote this story. So I called him up to fact-check your high-fence theory.

The bucks were both free-range deer. Shot in WI's CWD zone. Those red tags are what they put on a buck's antlers at a DNR registration station to certify that they've submitted a sample for CWD testing.

So, sorry to rain on your parade....But it was just a nice family hunt; couple of great young gals enjoying the sport with their dads and having some amazing success.

Another example of "how trophy hunting is ruining our sport?"

    I think not...

Your post poses a bigger question to us than that of mystical ear tags, but what were you thinking when you were sitting on the toilet reading that article? This is in no way an attack on you but my point is; Has it become so unbelievable and uncommon for a positive story to come out of the woods that hunters just automatically assume a smile next to a trophy deer is the result of some kind of unlawful or unethical practice? That mentality is what is ruining hunting. And for the sake of argument, let's say those deer did come out of a fence, how in God's name would that ruin what goes on in your camp?

THAT is the real problem with "trophy hunting"...... as soon as someone takes a legoit trophy, you have all kinds of jealous d-bags that crawl out from under a rock and try and start BS lies/rumors about them and their trophies!!! SAD!!!

I could show you all kinds of photo's of trophy class Bucks that myself and my kids ( ages 11, 12, and 16) have taken..... but thats the problem..... I wouldn't want to hear all the BS accusations that you may throw around !!!!

How many stories of big bucks end up being taken illegally?? ALOT!! (Not saying these deer were taken illegally just not in the wild) Why is it happening?? Because everyone thinks they need to shoot a huge buck to have a succesful season and to look good in their peers eyes!! Why is the contest the contest that the outdoor news runs "The best deer contest" not " The best buck contest"? I just don't understand why everyone thinks they have to shoot a big buck to have a good year hunting!!

My point exactly!! Just to ad to your second paragraph it is also what is causing the extreme difficulty getting access to private land.

I think every place should have earn a buck. Or maybe I think maybe we should kill every buck as it falls to the ground from it mother...then we wouldn't have to worry about big bucks that nobody wants to shoot ever. The smaller the better. Then, there will be no jealous people, the sport won't be ruined, and we can all get to kill 4 deer that won't fill a igloo cooler. Maybe over time they will adapt and morph into midget deer, and we can all be happy shooting the same thing so there is no challenge at all from anyone else who may get lucky or may do their homework and get a dandy buck. I think that would be perfect, then we can really eliminate websites such as this so there will really be nothing to discuss...I think "trophy hunters" are to blame for this economy and not having world peace as well....God it would be nice if all those recreational deer shows, expos, and websites were all basket 6 pts, that would just be amazing....

You are an idiot!!! What was wrong with the deer hunting before all this crap started?? Nothing!! Don't force trophy hunting on people let them make the choice for themselves!!

Yep, I'm an idiot. I am the one above who asks grasshopper after he gives you a perfect explanation of the ear tags if Wisconsin tags ALL of their deer in the ear.Meanwhile, in the paragraph before he specifically stated they do it for deer that have been sent for cwd testing....( a paragraph is a series of sentences that form a body to a story) God am I an idiot. lmao, call me what you want, but you have no idea how you look. But where I do agree with you, you certainly don't need to kill a trophy buck to have a successful season. I have killed at least two does a year with bow or gun, get to take kids out, occasionally get to see a good buck, but haven't killed a big buck in 3 yrs. Would I like to, yes, do I have to, heck no. I am just happy to be healthy enough to get in a tree, see what nature has to offer, occasionally get one or two. I take does every single year, without fail. I just love to be out there.
