Default Rushford man to be charged for killing, stealing buck from deer farm

Charges are pending against a 19-year-old Rushford man for allegedly killing and stealing a trophy deer from a deer farm in rural Houston.

During the early hours of Thursday morning, the man allegedly killed the 21-point buck, which was in a pen, with a bow and arrow and then cut through the fence to take it out, according to the Houston County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office received a report of the stolen deer Thursday, and after an investigation concluded that the Rushford man was the culprit. The Houston and Rushford police departments and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources also were involved in the investigation.

The buck had a green score of 212 Boone and Crockett.

That's exactly why I didn't post the person's face. If no one knows for sure and the picture can't be found on the web or in the media somewhere, I'm not posting it.

That's definitely the guy that shot the deer. We hunt right next to this deer farm and kind of got caught up in all of this last week. There were 24 deer that got out of the pen after the fence was cut and there were a couple of bucks with ear tags chasing does like no tomorrow in the valley that we hunt. We didn't find out why until Friday morning. As of Saturday night all of the deer were back except for the two bucks that were running the does.

You know, during the stink that was involved before this farm was started, they said that under no circumstance could a deer possibly get out. Now it's entirely possible that these deer that got out spread a disease to the wild herd.

I certainly hope that these 24 deer were immediately captured by the owner or put down as the law states. Of course, I believe he's only got 24 hours, then they become the DNR's problem and we as hunters pay for their eradication. Such a wonderful system we have in place for dealing with situations like this

Or should the soon to be convicted pay for everything that was done or could have been done? I'm pretty sure that their definition of "a deer can't get out" didn't include someone cutting the fence to get an illegal kill out. My guess from your tone is that you don't approve of deer farms, but that's besides the point of this thread.

Have you spoke to him about his motivations? Assuming you have, what did he say?

You keep emphasizing that EVERYONE is a trophy hunter. True trophy hunters make up a very small percentage of the total hunting population. This guy is not a trophy hunter he is a criminal. Stop making assumptions that all trophy hunters are criminals.

Everybody on this sight seems to think they are a trophy hunter. I am saying that is what is being pushed down everyones throat is that they need to be trophy hunters! I never said all trophy hunters are criminals. I am saying that this whole trophy hunting "fad" is causing more problems than it is doing good.

Surely you've heard of thrill killers. Right? Do you think people that rob banks do it for the couple thousand they walk away with? Clearly far from the dreaded trophy hunter.

I'm guilty. I view every animal I kill as a trophy. I get an adrenaline rush every time I draw my bow or raise my gun on an animal I intend to kill, whether it's a mature buck, a doe, longbeard...you name it, I don't discriminate. And you'd better believe I'm snapping pictures with every animal I am fortunate enough to take! I'd argue most would say they feel the same way. Man, I love hunting!!!!

Also, my guess is that this chump that killed this buck is also of the same ilk that poach does while shining, too. I'd hardly label him a trophy hunter...or even a hunter, for that matter.
