Default No daytime action, all nightime.

I setup a trailcam with 250lbs of corn in December 1st. I have recorded numerous buck, and doe. The deer have not missed a vist to the corn in over a month. However, all photos were taken at night.

I noticed my location was open, and could see for at least 100 through the woods in most direction. Now that the corn is finally gone, this past weekend, I moved the entire setup to a location with much more cover. I'm hoping to get some daytime shots.

If I do begin to get some daytime shots my thoughts are to put some food plots in this area.

What do you think of this approach? Any other thoughts to getting daytime photos?

    Thanks

I don't know if the deer this year are truly into their winter patterns and their winter bedding areas with the lack of cold and snow(at least here in MN), but they just might be. If that's the case, these deer just might not be wintering on your ground and by the time they get to your corn it's at night. Putting that corn like you said in more of a secluded area will certainly help or try a little closer to their bedding.

I never thought about getting it closer to a bedding area. I do know that doe bed about 50 yards from where I moved it to. They actually found it the evening i set it out (havn't checked the cam since that next morning).

It will be interesting to see if I get some day shots.

If they come out, i'll try getting it closer to a few of the buck beds I know of.

    thanks for the feedback.

As long as my dog didnt taint the corn too much! Video of him helping ---->

Closer to a bedding area should solve the issue. How long past sundown were most of the pictures taken?

Below is a sampling of the times the deer come though. It seems to be similar week to week.

The video shows a surrounding of the area of where the cam was at.

It's probably a product of being near the end of the season. Deer have hunters figured out. They stick tight to cover they feel secure in during daylight then head to other area that are more open under the cover or darkness. By moving it closer to the bedding area, you might start getting more pictures in daylight. Were you having the same issues with night time pictures earlier in the season?

I purchased this property in september, and have not been able to evalute their routines in a full year of life stages.

thanks for the feedback. I'll stop by your booth at the sportman show this weekend.

After moving the camera to a more secluded / thicker location. I have recorded 10 or more differnt buck in a week. The buck to doe ration is about 3 to 1 (gotta love the neighbors). Still no daytime, but they are coming out alot earlier. Just after dark.

The big buck appears to have a parasite in his right jaw. Would you mount it?

Try putting out a small amount of corn per night. If the bucks come in late and the corn is almost or all the way gone he will show up sooner and sooner each day.I know your scent in the area is greater, however the need to bulk back up will cause them to come back.

That makes sense. Has anyone had success getting deer to show themselves in the daylight using those automated deer feeders which spit out corn at a certain time? And not just deer, the older bucks?

Ulitmately I'm using the trail cam to identify places to put in my food plots. Areas where they feel comfortable coming out in the day.

My place seems to be a high traffic area for deer and feeding. The night before a storm or full moon night like last, i ve had deer out in the field as early as 4 pm for small deer and bigger towards 7 pm(as many as 37 during Jan full moon). I may not see a single deer for a week after that. Everything for a mile each way seems to worked crop ground, where do they go and how far?

    Default Finally

I'm finally starting to get some day time action. I'm not certain if it is because the hunting season is over, or if it is location. Possibly a combination of both.

I'm now closer to bedding areas, and in a location with more cover.

I'm sure you're right. It's a combination of both! Glad your getting them during daytime now.
