    Default Ground Blind ?

Looking for any suggestions on a good ground blind. I want my wife to shoot a deer next year early bow season, but she is afraid of climbing up a tree stand, so a ground blind over a food plot is what I want to set up for her. Looking for a big, well-built blind. Double Bull or Ameristep or Ground Max??? Thanks. Adam

Big fan of Double Bull/Crusher blinds. Ameristep blinds have the economic benefit for a portable (in the same pop-out style as the Primos brands) but not a huge fan of the way the windows are set-up. The windows in the Ameristep (versions like Bone Collector and Hybrid) aren't as versatile as the Double Bull/Crusher style. Keep in mind, we film all of our hunts, so we're looking for a healthy balance of windows/cover as we prefer a wide field of view for both the archer and camera, sacrificing as little cover as possible. The Double Bull/Crusher has worked best for our set up as the main opening of the blind is a continuous line in a slit style that can be increased/decreased by sliding the main fabric up/down a vertical strap, whereas the Ameristep versions are individual windows.

That said, both brands offer enough room for two people.

Ameristep also offers some cheaper pop-out styles like the doghouse which is slightly smaller but still big enough for two. However, if you plan to hunt out of a blind on a regular basis, I truly believe the Double Bull/Crushers are worth the extra coin. We never go on a trip/hunt without multiple blinds, as they allow versatility that treestands do not (especially on open ground that we see in North Dakota and Kansas, or on rainy days, for example).

Don't rule out creating a natural blind, either. Some of the fabrics in the more mobile pop-up blinds are beneficial as they help with scent control but any pop-up also requires a higher deal of brushing to hide the outline of the fabric.

Examples of the windows of the two brands you mentioned:

    Double Bull/Crusher style from Primos

I have hunted extensively out of both brands in various models but do not have much experience with any other brand(s).

    Cheers!

only comment I have is to try it out before you buy one. I bought one without trying it out and it is useless for bowhunting. The windows are all to high to be able to draw my bow and shoot out of them. It is a nice blind for gun hunting and easy to setup but it isn't archery friendly
Is it November 2012 yet?? 2011 sucked arse for me!!

Another vote for the Double bull matrix, crusher, or whatever theyre calling them these days. The Magnus Rackpack works great in conjuction with the blind also. Sounds like Magnus will be reintroducing them this year.

I've hunted out of a Double Bull Matrix and it's a very nice blind. It's big enough for two people and it was quiet (no velcro). Not sure if they were discontinued or not after the new crusher blind came out. Have not hunted out of the double bull Dark Horse, but I think it's basically the same as the matrix just has 180 view verse the 360 on the matrix. The Dark Horse is usually listed around $299 or less and I believe the crusher is around $399. I have friend that has a Primos Vision which also seems like a pretty decent blind. I have not hunted out of it, but he's hunted with his daughter out and he said was fairly comfortable for two people. It also sets up easy and uses magnets for the windows which makes it alot quieter.

I can't afford one but look at this idea for a ground blind.

I have a doghouse and a DB Dark Horse. My Dad had the Primos Vision. You would be alright with either the DB or Primos. They have so much more room than the doghouse. The DB is definately higher quality fabric and poles vs the Primos. However, is it worth the extra $100, that would be a personal choice and how much cash you have burning a hole in your pocket. I am glad I purchased the DB over the Primos. My .02 worth.
