    Default New Big Buck Season

This is from the Outdoor news, "A new deer hunting season that could generate dollars fo the DNR and give big buck chasers in Mn more opportunity to hunt for antlers is being considered by a Brainerd senator who's legislation creating such a season could be introduced this session."

"Sen. Paul Gazelka R-Brainerd said a buck permit could be purchased by rifle and shotgun hunters who would like to extend they're seasons - if they still have unused buck tags- and hunt strictly for bucks with eight points or more."

Sounds like Sen. Gazelka is proposing this special statewide season to coincide with the muzzloader season! My questions are; why not just hunt the muzzloader season? Whats the point? Is Sen. Gazelka to cheap to buy a muzzloader? I love MDHA's comment "a possible conflict with muzzloader hunters is one concern." What about bowhunters? Technically a gun hunter can hunt three + weeks already with the proper licenses?

Yet another completely valid reason why our seasons and regulations should NOT be governed through legislation. This just might be one of the more idiotic things that I've read or heard of yet.

I love how I come up in so many conversations I have nothing to do with, or even an opinion on. I feel so popular and loved.

I guess I just think of you whenever something completely ridiculous (that is deer hunting related) comes up and say to myself "who would actually support this".

Then all those Dam Greedy Bowhunters would shoot all the big bucks!! Look whats happened in Wi, IA, Ka, and Ill. You cant kill a big buck during gun season in those states. Besides we need to keep the tradition of mediocrity alive for the youngsters!!

I also read this in the outdoor news and think it's dumb idea. However, he brought it up to a few people he knows and they thought it was good idea. I hope it doesn't pass, but it's all about raising revenue so I wouldn't be surprised if it passes. If it does pass I would like to see the price of the tag be about equal to or greater than a non-resident tag $26 come on. This is too small of a price to pay so Mr. Big Buck Hunter can hunt until the last day of the season and shoot the first yearling 8 pointer that walks by because he bought a tag and put in his time. Don't get me wrong I enjoy seeing and hunting big bucks or the opportunity at least, but this seems to be getting a little extreme. Sorry about the rant I try not to do it that often.

    Also from the outdoor news.

"The DNR proposed a long list of fee increases last year, including a rise from $17 to $24 for a one-year resident individual adult fishing license and from $24 to $40 for a married couple. An individual deer license would have gone from $26 to $30. An annual angling license for a nonresident adult would have gone from $39.50 to $44 and a nonresident deer license would have gone from $140 to $160. The DNR's proposal this year is expected to be about the same."

So a 41% increases for resident fishing lic, 66% increase for a couple, heres the funny part non resident fishing lic. increase is 11%!! . How about this one, non resident deer lic from $140 up to $160 now Mn's Non res deer lic is only $400 less than IA!! I hope the $20 increase doesnt p!$$ off the huge # of nonresidents that hunt our deer. Welcome to Mn were we stick it to our own people!!

It may be but I have a hunch there are others in this state with the same feelings.
