Default Land Owner/ Farmer meeting on Thursday

There is going to be a meeting on crop damage issues this Thursday in Winona at the technical college starting at 6:30. The DNR will be present to discuss access to management tags for farmers who have problems with crop damage due to high population density of deer.

My opinion on the matter: Responsible farmers who have sound farming practices, and still see excessive deer damage should be able to in conjunction with DNR officials monitor deer numbers on the property they run without having to jump through all the hoops.

    What are your thoughts?

My thoughts? For farmers who are experiencing all of this crop damage, my free services are available to help deplete the herd for them.

Good point Stump. Might be a good oppourtunity for hunters who are looking for land to hunt to meet some land owners that want deer harvested.

Crop damage is why there are depredation permits. They're not all that hard to get, and the only thing that's needed is a place to give the meat to.

Most farmers that have the problems are already taking an awful lot of deer from their farm, but it's their neighbors that only take one deer a year, or lease their land to someone that will only take that one lifetime buck that are the problem.
