Default Is Deer Hunting legal in Eagan, MN?

    .

Does anyone here Bow hunt for deer in Eagan, Minnesota (not parks) or know if hunting is legal in Eagan, MN?

I spoke with the DNR and they said it would be covered by Eagan to allow or disallow that. I called the Eagan PD and the officer said he couldn't find anything saying it wasn't illegal. But then I spoke with a cop from a different agency who said it's illegal in Eagan because he has tried to hunt there in the past and was told it was illegal.

usually there's a law against firing any type of projectile in a city that prevents deer hunting, or hunting of any sort within the city limits. Many cities have special archery hunts which circumvent the firearm law, and the DNR should know about all of those.

The DNR said it was up to the cities. The cop said it was fine. But I can't find any statute or anything on the city of Eagan's webpage.

I wouldn't mess around with just speaking to anyone in the police department. I would try and talk to the chief direct or someone near his level. City laws especially hunting supersede mostly anything county, state and especially the DNR. Each level won't know what the other is doing. If it's legal in Eagan to hunt, the chief or his counterpart will/should have detailed maps on where you can. As always, best to get something in writing as well. Never know when someone might call you in and you will have an encounter with someone who is on patrol at the time. Different people interpret laws differently.

Another option for hunting opportunities is becoming a member of the MBRB. http://mbrb.org/mbrb/ Read up on the information on that link and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to call or email them. Now is the perfect time to get what you need settled for the MBRB hunts.

    email - info@mbrb.org (best method)

Yeah, I was definitely going to get a written letter on Eagan PD letterhead

Thanks for the link to the mbhrg. They do a lot of park hunts and I don't want to really do that.

Call the city council. They're the ones that decide whether it's legal to archery hunt in the city limits. A quick google search says that in 1993 the Eagan city council decided not to allow deer hunting in the city limits, and there's nothing that comes up saying that was changed. If it never did pass, then I suggest getting your buddies together and pushing the city council to allow it, assuming there's actually places to hunt in the city limits where if you hit a deer with your bow it won't go die in some little kid's back yard.

It says you need a permit for any special hunting season. I don't know if this pertains to special archery hunts in the preserves or any type of hunting. So I guess I'll have to find out.
