Thread: How many?

  1. Default How many?

Just wondering how many of you guys and gals bowfish? Its a great off season hunt after spring turkey is all over and there is not much else going on.

Bowfishing is a great way to get your kids involved as the weather is usually good at that time of the year and the action is fast enough to keep them interested.

I posted this earlier this past year. I had the opportunity to bowfish with Dave M*** from North American Hunter TV last spring. The segment is shown on thier "Manitoba Waterfowel" episode and aires again Dec 13,15&16 on Versus. I also have the segment available on my site to watch at: http://www.lovesoutdoors.com/video/index.html

I live about an hour south of the Twin Cities and if any of you are in the area in the spring time let me know. I would be glad to take you out bowfishing.

Great pics there ladybowhntr!! Good size carp.

I use to shoot carp all the time back in the day. I bet we would shoot at least 1,000 carp a summer between my brother and I on the river behind my place. Man they were the good old days!! I need to get back into that stuff again.

I just got into it this summer. Seems like if the fish aren't bitting you can always find some carp. Definetly a good way to maintain your shoot form during the summer.

My son and I took a trip with Greg at Gar-Git-R on the Winnebago chain a few weeks ago and had a blast. We were out at night and it was like sitting in the aquarium at Cabela's. We saw gamefish, panfish, turtles, water mammals, and a bunch of shootable stuff; carp, suckers, sheephead, gar, dogfish, etc. We got lots of shooting (over 200 shots), but not as much hitting (about 15). I haven't bowfished in over 35 years and it was my son's first time. It does take a little doing to get your head wrapped around seeing the fish in one spot and aiming somewhere else to allow for the bending of the light. Lots of little suckers. You'd shoot right over them and put your arrow in the bottom and they wouldn't even move until you bumped them with the arrow as you retrieved it. And of course it never failed, that while you were retrieving your arrow after a missed little one, a much bigger target would swim lazily by. We still had fun though

Well, we're hooked. We picked up a couple of bowfishing set-ups and are now looking for places to shoot.

Any recommendations for places to bowfish in the Eau Claire area? I have a fishing boat we could shoot out of or can walk the bank. My son's vision is to build a boat with a raised platform, generator for lights at night and a fan to push us over the water, but we aren't quite there just yet.

    Any help is much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Dave

I went with a buddy a couple of times this past summer. I'm hooked. I'm gonna gear up myself for next year and hit it hard.
